Creative Arts
How can creative arts help?
It can help with processing difficult emotions without the need for talking. The art techniques suggested have nothing to do with talent. They are intended to promote greater self awareness and increase relaxation.
Beyond providing a coping mechanism in times of stress, creative arts is about expression and releasing toxic emotions.
In group workshops, creative arts is fun way to connect with others and improve communication skills and problem solving ability.
Several art mediums are available such as using nature to create art with gel plates, sand trays, mask making, abstract designs and repetitive pattern making like doodling, clay modelling and many more. The emphasis is on the process of expression through art making.
Forest Therapy Walk & Talk
How does therapy on the move help?
Walk and Talk Therapy blends traditional talk therapy with the physical and emotional benefits of walking in natural environments. It's a gentle yet powerful approach to healing, and increasingly popular for good reason.
As a trained Forest Therapy Practitioner, the walks can blend nature invitation practices that promote a positive relationship with nature, mindfulness and a chance to listen to your own intuition.
The science backs the benefits which can include improved sleep, reduction in anxiety and depression and release of toxic emotions that can trigger physical symptoms.
Being outside in nature promotes openness and ease of discussion removing traditional pressures associated with talk therapies.
In a group setting, social connections and common interests can be established.
Animal Assisted Therapy
How do animals support therapy?
Working with animals can help boost self esteem and confidence. They are also wonderful at developing empathy. They introduce elements of energy and humour into the therapy setting In a traditional therapy setting, they can help reduce anxiety and stress. Stroking an animal can reduce blood pressure and release oxytocin which helps in social communication.
Problem solving using animal scenarios can boost cognitive function and support disclosure. Other interventions may include creating habitats for the animals as well as learning about animal welfare. This leads well into self care and identifying your needs.
At present there are three working dogs and one retired. Syd (pictured) is a two year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
In the near future we can offer stick insects, guinea pigs, mice and a tortoise.
Every person is unique — your therapy should be too.
At The Green In Between, you can blend the different approaches or explore just one approach.
